Birds of America: The Abbeville Edition (1985)
The Abbeville edition of the Birds of America was published in 1985 on the occasion of the bicentennial of Audubon's birth. It is the only full-size facsimile edition to be issued in conjunction with the National Audubon Society. Using the National Audubon Society's own copy of the Havell edition, the Abbeville Press employed state-of-the-art printing techniques (using up to thirteen colors) to produce a facsimile that is as close to the originals as possible.
Each set contained 435 plates. The sets were sold by subscription and 350 sets were issued.
This edition was printed on double elephant folio paper that measured approximately 26 ½ x 39 ½ inches. Each sheet of paper is watermarked and bears the name of the Abbeville press and the National Audubon Society.
