The Havell Edition
Havell Edition prints are the only original Audubons with countermarks. Made during manufacturing of the paper, a countermark is a legend that appears as part of the paper, and is usually not visible unless the sheet is held to the light.
Each Havell print includes a part number on the left side, and a unique plate number on the right. Havells include a credit to Audubon as the artist (bottom left) and a credit to the printer Havell (or his predecessor W. H. Lizars) on the lower right. Between these two credits is the title area, which will typically include the bird's common name, its scientific name, possibly the plant species, and sometimes additional information (e.g., identification of the birds as female or male, young or old).
